Le Devoir, a French newspaper published and syndicated in Canada, has reported that the singer won't be doing a performance at the Festival's final closing ceremony on Sunday.
Yemi Alade, a well-known Nigerian artist, and her band were denied visas to Canada due to concerns that they might not be allowed to leave the country following their performance.
Le Devoir, a French newspaper published and syndicated in Canada, has reported that the singer won't be doing a performance at the Festival's final closing ceremony on Sunday.
The 33-year-old Afropop musician is reportedly one of the Festival international Nuits d'Afrique's headliners.
The festival's co-founder, Suzanne Rousseau, commented on the development, stating that the visa denial was brought on by budgetary constraints and concerns that the group wouldn't depart Canada.
Finally, she claimed, "we received a response saying the artists were rejected, saying they needed to certify that they have the financial resources that will enable them to return to their country.
Yemi's absence means that Sampa The Great, an Australian singer of Zambian ancestry, will have to perform in Yemi's place at the festival, according to Suzanne.
